The wider objective of the project was to reduce the basic causes of fragility in both La Macarena Colombia and the municipalities of Santo Domingo Xenacoj (Sacatepequez) and Parramos (Chimaltenango) in Guatemala and improve the security in these municipalities.

The specific objectives (outcomes and intervention strategies) were:
1. Access to the justice system
2. Settlement and citizen security
3. Participation of the rural inhabitants in municipal governance
4. Institutional strengthening of municipalities in relation to justice and settlement
5. Regional linking and learning

The results (outputs) of the project were:
1.1. Increased amount of conflict conciliators in both regions, and an increase in the amount of rural centres of conflict conciliation in La Macarena.
1.2. The inhabitants of both regions actively search access to the conflict conciliators
2.1. The formation of networks for citizen security, training and awareness raising of the community on conflict prevention, community justice and effective cooperation with the local government.
2.2. Civil society organisations monitor the security situation and enter into dialogue with their municipality.
3.1. The inhabitants of both regions are better able to participate in their municipal decision-making, as a result of training and accompaniment. Also the municipality is better able to account for their decisions.
4.1. The municipal institutional capacity has increased on the topics of community justice, settlement and security, as a result of technical assistance and training
4.2. The municipal institutional capacity has increased to work together with civil society on the evaluation and implementation of local economic development projects, as a result of technical assistance.
5.1. Conflict conciliators, local authorities and representatives of community committees have increased their knowledge, experience and skills in the field of citizens participation in rural governance, which has increased the quality of their work.
